Connect Sedes to your AI.
Five minutes, once. After that your AI can consult the sources in every conversation and have every reference checked.
ChatGPT
- Open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode. On Business and Enterprise, the administrator does this.
- Choose Create connector. Name:
Sedes. Description: “Dutch legislation, case law and reference checking”. - Enter as the MCP server URL:
https://api.getsedes.com/mcp?key=sedes_…and choose No authentication. - Confirm that you trust the connector. Pick Sedes in a new conversation through + and More, or mention Sedes in your question.
Why is the key in the URL? ChatGPT has no field for a custom header. Sedes takes the key straight from the URL and passes it on to no one.
Use a separate key per app. Then you can revoke one without touching the rest.
Claude
- Open Settings (or Customize), then Connectors, then Add custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, the administrator adds it for the organisation.
- Name:
Sedes. URL:https://api.getsedes.com/mcp?key=sedes_…. Leave the OAuth fields empty. - Turn the connector on in a conversation, in the Search and tools menu.
Works on the web, in the desktop app and on your phone once the connector is in your account.
Claude Code and your own software
If your app can send a header, the key goes in the header. That is the preferred way.
claude mcp add --transport http sedes https://api.getsedes.com/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer sedes_…"
Other MCP apps: Streamable HTTP at https://api.getsedes.com/mcp with the header Authorization: Bearer sedes_…. Without MCP: the REST API at https://api.getsedes.com/v1/, described in openapi.json.
Check that it works
Ask these two questions in a new conversation:
Use Sedes: what does art. 6:162 BW say and where is it published?
You should get the verbatim text, with a link to wetten.overheid.nl.
Check with Sedes whether ECLI:NL:HR:2022:8812 exists.
This ECLI is made up. The answer should be that Sedes cannot find it:
Does not exist Sedes: this ECLI belongs to no published ruling.
Error 401: the key is missing or has been revoked.
Error 429: your plan’s limit has been reached. The response says when you can continue.
Make your AI always use the source
Put this sentence in the standing instructions of your project, your own GPT or your Claude project:
Only cite statutes, rulings and parliamentary papers that you retrieved or checked with Sedes (resolve_citation, verify_quote), and give the official citation for every source.
A language model decides for itself when to use a tool. With this instruction it does so for every reference, instead of quoting from memory.
